I hiked up to the Carbon glacier last week. It was nice, but one can see that there certainly still is quite a bit of snow up in the hills. The other low land hikes might be on the Olympics like the hoh, duckabush etc. and the Boulder River area.

Most the good stuff is still under snow.

The Mountain Loop Hwy outside of Granite Falls has a great selection of lower elevation hikes. Try this one, it has a number of railroad tunnels to explore along with great scenery along the Stilliquamish River http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mbs/recreation/activities/trails/drd/old_robe.htm

Relax! You will get over it.

the carbon glacier that has a max elevation of 3600ft? so the trail is pretty much snow-free? that looked like a good one but i'm not sure where the snow level is at around the mt rainier area. so thanks for the tip! that's great news!

i went to boulder river today.... not too exciting though

i went to lake 22 on the mountain loop highway on thursday. it was a nice short hike. wanted to go explore more around that area, heather lake, big four ice caves.... but it started pouring! thanks for the tip though.

You could always give Mt. Pilchuck a whirl

Oyster Dome is a nice hike, and if you did Mt. Si will have not problem with the difficulty. And if you are headed to Mt. Pilchuck you can check the review I wrote last week. It was nice, but there certainly is a lot of snow, and a couple tricky sections on the way to the top.

Cheers,

John

Hi John,

I ended up hiking the 4th of july creek trail yesterday. Nice views and geez, it was a workout! The snow level is very high over there, around 6400 ft. Where are you off to this weekend?

Happy hiking,
Carol

I wound up going to Heather Lake up by Mt. Pilchuck. In a word - humid. I am going to put up the review tomorrow. Very much like Annette lake. I'll have to make a note of 4th of July creek. Looks like a fun hike

Oh nice! Look forward to the trail report!

Thinking about going hiking tomorrow, but just read the weather report, suppose to rain! Any suggestions for good hikes in the rain along I-90? Does it seem like it's raining a lot more this year or is it just raining on almost all my days off!

Yep it seems like one of the cold summers to be followed by a warm winter. http://www.attrition.ws/forums/index~page~topic~topicID~76.cfm . Think we will have a late wild flower season.

does that mean the hiking season will last until oct/nov since we're going to have a warm winter?

i ended up going to rattlesnake mountain on monday. it's a nice trail, looks like it's under-used though. i haven't read too many reports on it. the view is nice also.

It would be nice to think that we will have an Indian Summer - though my bet is we won't Just a guess...we will see.

You should submit a review for Rattle Snake Mountain so it can be added to the site. http://www.attrition.ws/index~page~newhike.cfm The UI is pretty simple, just make sure you fill in all the values such as date. The elevation stuff can be derived...and you can always edit it later after it is on the site.

Cheers,

John
