Fight the power

Seems to be a fairly common question these days... The snow is really lingering this year. I was up on Mt. Pilchuck last weekend and there is maybe 8-10 feet of snow at ~5000 feet.

My thought on the weather is that generally cold winters are followed by warm summers and vice versa. I would classify last year as sort of mild, which generally is followed by cooler summers. We did get a lot of snow, but the weather wasn't particularly cold.

So what this suggests to me is that the considerable snow pack will be late melting out and the summer will be a cooler one than normal.

My guess is that the high country will be about 6-8 weeks late melting out. So if you are thinking about the wildflowers up at Sunrise the sweet spot is probably shaking up to be around mid to late July.

Last year it was considerably earlier...
